Mikko brings over thirty years of expertise in EU affairs, developed across corporate public affairs, European institutions, trade federations, and consulting. His core strengths span trade policy and market access, the EU/EEA internal market, the clean industrial deal, climate and energy, sustainability and the forest-based sector. He also enjoys supporting clients with negotiation strategies and enhancing their public affairs functions. Prior to consulting, Mikko held senior management roles including SVP of International Corporate Affairs at Metsä Group, one of Europe’s leading forest industry groups. He has also served at the European Commission, the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the Confederation of Finnish Industries. Mikko regularly shares his insights on EU affairs as a guest lecturer at the University of St Andrews (UK). In recognition of his work to develop sustainable business solutions, he has been named an outstanding contributor to sustainable development by the WBCSD. Mikko holds a Master’s degree in International Economics from the University of Helsinki and has studied Applied Physics at Aalto University. He speaks English, native Finnish, and Swedish, and has working knowledge of French and German.
