Koert is a geopolitical analyst, columnist, and author. He is the former editor-in-chief of EUObserver as well as a Research Fellow at Oxford’s Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict and a Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Brussels University VUB’s Brussels School of Governance. 

From 2016 to 2019, he served as European director for the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy. Moving to Cairo in 2011 to represent the ALDE group of the European Parliament, he travelled the MENA region extensively until 2016. From 2009 until 2011, he served as chief of staff for Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the ALDE group. Koert was previously advisor, speechwriter, and spokesperson for the Prime Minister of Belgium from 2003 to 2008.
